We are ALWAYS interested in buying good books, and we pay top dollar for the books we are interested in.
Some books that we are always excited to buy:
-Classics: literature, poetry, philosophy, science...
-Science fiction and fantasy
-Folklore, Mythology, Fairy Tales
-Natural history / field guides
-Children's and illustrated books (in good condition) old, new, and anywhere in between.
-Local/ regional history- anything concerning the history of Minnesota and the upper Midwest
-Cookbooks, especially old, weird, and/or odd.
-Art (including photography, architecture, graphic novels..)
-Religion: Especially liturgical texts; books in Greek or Latin; Bibles (1900 or older) Catholic books (e.g. those printed by Benziger or Sheed & Ward)
Some books that are (usually) not of interest:
-Reference books, encyclopedias, dictionaries
-Recent books on self help, how-to, health, diet etc.
-Recent textbooks on general topics.
If you have books to sell, or if you simply curious as to what your books might be worth, here's how to get started:
IN PERSON: You may bring your books into the bookstore to have appraised. Currently, a buyer is present on Wednesdays from 11-5, Saturdays from 10-6 and Sundays from 12-6.
I can usually appraise your books right away, and give you a cash offer on the spot.
You do not need an appointment, however I recommend calling ahead, especially if you are traveling some distance.
If you are comfortable dropping your books off, you may do so at any time during normal business hours and we will contact you with an offer within 7 days.
Please note: General appraisals (i.e. you're curious if your books are worth something) are free. If you are looking for a more detailed evaluation, such as for tax or insurance purposes, we can refer you elsewhere.
*Due to limited storage space, we ask that drop-offs be limited to 2 bags/boxes. If you do not return to pick up your books, we reserve the right to donate or recycle unclaimed books after 30 days*
We also make house calls for larger collections and libraries. If you are within 100 miles of Stillwater and have books to sell, please email for more information.
ONLINE: A good way to start out, and saves you the drive.
Send us an email at [email protected] and let us know the following:
About how many books do you have?
Subject matter? (children's, literature/fiction, history, religion, etc)
Approximate age? (current, early to mid 20th century, pre-1900)
A complete catalogue or list of titles is NOT necessary.
While we usually need to see the books in person before giving an appraisal or making an offer, it is helpful if you are able to include a couple digital photos. If they are on shelves, photos of the spines are great. Covers are helpful for children's books or other thinner volumes.
This helps us to get a sense of the overall type and condition of the books, and whether or not they might be of interest or value.
